The difference between cashmere sweater and sweater

- Nov 07, 2019-

The blink of an eye has entered the late autumn, and winter is not far from us. When the weather is cold, warmth has become a big problem. Cardigans and cashmere sweaters are the common choice for everyone!

But I think everyone will come across the problem: Many people will confuse the two kinds of fabrics, "cashmere" and "wool". What is the difference between the two?

1, the source is different

Although cashmere and wool are found on sheep, they are actually from different types of sheep. Wool comes from sheep and cashmere comes from goats.

As we all know, the best wool in the world is from Australia, and the best cashmere is from my domestic Mongolian region, and almost 70% of the world's cashmere is produced in China! So if it is a coat or sweater made from cashmere from Inner Mongolia, it is more expensive!

Next, let's see what is wool, and what is cashmere?

Wool: From sheep, even fine sheep wool, whether from a professional point of view or industry, is also called wool.

Features of wool products: full-feeling, warmth, and comfortable to wear.

It is a thin layer of fine velvet that grows on the outer skin of the goat and hides at the roots of the goat's hair. After receiving the cold current stimulation in winter, it grows to resist the cold, and then naturally falls off after the warm spring in the coming year. It belongs to a rare animal fiber.

It is worth mentioning that cashmere accounts for only 0.2% of the world's total animal fiber production! ! Even because of the scarcity of cashmere, each cashmere sweater needs at least 5 cashmere to make. Therefore, cashmere is priced in grams in the transaction, is recognized as "soft gold."

2, different collection methods

In addition to the origin, the collection methods of cashmere and wool are also very different -

The collection of wool, like a haircut or undressing, is completely shaved with scissors, and then completely taken off, also known as shearing wool.

Cashmere grows in the roots of the goat's rough hair and belongs to natural shedding.

Therefore, every time the hair is removed in the spring, the herdsmen will use a special iron comb to grab the little bit like a comb and become a raw cashmere.

3, the output is different

Each sheep can produce several kilograms of wool per year, and each goat can only harvest tens of grams of cashmere per year. Not only in 2017, global wool production was around 1.1 million tons, while cashmere was only 20,000 tons. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to make cashmere a "luxury".

4, different skin-friendly

Cashmere and wool are hard to distinguish from the naked eye, but under the microscope, that's a big difference! There is a large inclination between the scales of the fine sheep wool and the hair shaft. Including the side has a lot of jagged protrusions.

The cashmere fiber is composed of both scales and cortical layers, so it does not contain a medulla layer. The average diameter is mostly 14-16μm, which is 5-9μm shorter than fine wool! !

5, different moisture absorption

The water absorption of cashmere is the strongest of all textile fibers, and the moisture regain is above 15%.

If you soak your cashmere sweater in the water, it will take a few seconds to get wet, and most of the sweaters will take more than half a minute to get wet.

6, different warmth

Cashmere is 8 times warmer than wool, because under the same coverage area, fine cashmere has more static air than wool, so it has better warmth.

However, cashmere weighs only one-fifth of the wool, but it is also more delicate, and the durability is lower than that of wool.

7, different gloss

As mentioned before, the scales of wool are pointed, while the scales of cashmere are round, and the cashmere fibers are hollow and have no medulla. Therefore, clothes made of cashmere will have a softer gloss and a more textured look.

8, different anti-wrinkle ability

Because wool is a medullary solid fiber, and cashmere is unmyelinated, it is quite flexible to grab a double-faced cashmere coat with your hand. Even after squeezing hard, the loose clothes will immediately return to a flat and will not wrinkle.
